Planning A Yellowstone Fly Fishing Trip - The Madison River
The tailwater section of the Madison River below Hebgen and Quake Lake can
be fished long before the season opens in Yellowstone National Park. Large
rainbow and brown trout can be taken even during the coldest part of the
Winter. Although it wasn't wintertime, I caught this rainbow, along with many
others, this rather cold day early in the season.
There are plenty of good fishing opportunities in the Yellowstone area that are
not taken advantage of. One is the excellent early season fishing on the
Madison River outside the park. I didn't see another angler fishing the Madison
this particular day. During the month of July, there may be hundreds of anglers
fishing the river. It's a big river but it can become crowded during the peak of the
season. The same trout are there year-round.
