Destinations: Fly Fishing Monture Creek, Montana
We are throwing this little stream in because we think it is unique. It is a tributary
of the Blackfoot River near the middle of no where. Seriously, the stream near
the little town of Ovando, Montana. There isn't much of anything there, but it is a
unique area of the state of Montana.

One of the unique things about it is the fact it is Grizzly Bear country. Its water
flows from an area bordering the Bob Marshall Wilderness. It has all the species
of trout including brown, rainbows, cutthroats and brook and is also a breeding
ground for bull trout. The lower few miles of the river has spawning bull trout that
move in from the Blackfoot River.

Another unique thing about it is that it is rarely, if ever, crowded. Even though
the part near highway 200 is easily accessed, you rarely see anyone fishing.
You may think that is a result of the fishing, but it sure isn't. We have always, or I
should say the few times we have fished there, been able to catch plenty of trout.
The most appealing part, is the upper part of the stream. You have to hike in
there and we haven't been over two miles of so from the point you can drive, but
it is still a neat little stream with plenty of willing cutthroats to explore. The stream
has a fairly low gradient, so it is easy to wade and fish.
