The “Cutbow” is part Rainbow Trout and part Cutthroat Trout. Notice the yellow color of the cutthroat is not there. The sides of the trout look similar to the rainbow trout.
The red slash or cut in the lower part of the gill helps distinguish it as a cutbow – or part rainbow and part cutthroat trout.
These are present in several streams in Yellowstone National Park, especially in the Gallatin River. They are fun to catch and seem to fight like rainbows but feed like cutthroats or maybe it’s right the opposite. Just kidding.
